Sol LeWitt

Sol LeWitt’s gouache paintings on paper pair intellectual substance with visual delight. LeWitt’s artwork explores the potential of ideas for the making of visual forms. He transforms these ideas into objects of exquisite beauty and elegance, deliberately introducing elements of chance, intuition or irrationality into the systems that govern the creation of his works.

Sol LeWitt is a seminal figure in the art world, having established his reputation during the conceptual art movement of the late 1960’s. His wall drawings, works on paper and sculptures are represented in the collections of major museums throughout the world. His works have been included in countless exhibitions nationally and internationally and he was the subject of a recent traveling retrospective exhibition organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
